The contribution of artificial intelligence (AI) is coming to the fore in several disciplines and travel companies continue to leverage it for operational efficiency and customer interactions.

Xavier Ginesta, chairman at Voxel, in a blog post mentioned that technology has been able to “humanize some functions, placing value on people with a talent that cannot be replaced by technological solutions while also creating new jobs”. “Although artificial intelligence may generate a great deal of skepticism, it has the potential for offering personalized vacations based on the data provided by the consumer and for providing subscription services that create ideal vacation packages based on the customer’s preferences,” said Voxel. He added that there is much to learn when it comes to implementing artificial intelligence.

In terms of how AI-driven tools are shaping up, for instance in the arena of fraud prevention, Neil Govender provided an insight and shared that rules-based systems are prone to false positives but with AI the industry is moving forward with adaptive algorithms and real-time detection. With this, the chances of an erroneous judgment about a legitimate shopper is coming down. So the way to go is to blend AI agility and pre-defined rules in order to cut down on fraud, according to Govender.

Another area where travel companies are making advancement is related to trip planning, and also to introduce the option of making a travel booking within the conversational style chatbot. Such tools, based on a large language model (LLM) or a deep learning algorithm, are delivering in terms of conversational answers.

In a recent interview with Ai Events, Chris Amenechi spoke about how ChatGPT and artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming airline distribution, and also engagement, loyalty and other aspects of the travel experience.
