Counting on data-driven organization redesign

It is imperative for organizations to focus not only on digitalization and agility, but also on environmental sustainability. How can airlines work on the same, crafting an astute organization design that involves the creation of roles, processes and structures to ensure that the organization’s goals can be realized?

Discussing the same during a webinar hosted by Ai, Tim De Boer, Norway-based Reconfig and Ricardo Pilon, Pomona Capital, mentioned that organizational design and implementation is how “companies enable their stakeholders to deliver on the purpose of future-wise goals. Other aspects that were emphasised: emerging technologies and up-skilling of staff require organizational change, and tools that assist in delivering optimal organizational structures overcome human obstacles. “Start small,” was their recommendation.

Counting on data-driven organization redesign tools

Companies make use of an AI software tool for data collection, analysis and optimization of organizational structures.

The goal here is to back decisions about organization design by evaluating the current entity, working on ways to align the formal structure with the work processes, and cut down on coordination cost (at the team, sub-unit, or org. level). This facilitates knowing about the information flow of an entity, assess work processes and design an organizational structure to achieve the best possible fit between intended and actual work processes.

According to Reconfig, the field of organization design sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, law and HR. Some points to note: the design of the organization is also influenced by laws, regulations, and governance principles; organization design is fundamentally about people; focus on a close link between operations and organization design.
