Loyalty Security Alliance

This is a closed-door virtual Roundtable Session, usually held the last Thursday of each month, to facilitate sharing among Fraud & Security personnel from hotel companies.

Loyalty and Payment Fraud hurts merchants of all types. To reduce fraud the airlines have been organizing regular meetings on payment card fraud, where they discuss trends in the fraud area and methods that the fraudsters are using. Sharing of this type of intelligence has permitted a significant reduction of fraud losses. The consequence of this initiative has resulted in fraudsters reorienting their activities towards Loyalty Programs, which appear more vulnerable to fraud.

To help the Hotel industry in its objective to protect customer data, its reputation, and the various Loyalty Programs, it has been decided to organize regular calls between Fraud Departments of Hotel Loyalty Programs.

The aim is to allow participants to protect themselves from all forms of fraud, especially cyber-enabled fraud, by the sharing of intelligence and techniques in a closed and confidential environment, attended by Hotel (and those offering hotel inventory) representatives only.

The Hotel Participants join a confidential sharing community of industry leaders and experts, all working to increase the security of Hotel Loyalty Programs.

Participants in these calls benefit from real-time collaboration, industry-specific benchmarking, threat intelligence reports and analysis, industry-relevant committees, and working groups.

Subjects that can and will be discussed include, but are not limited to:

Loyalty Program related fraud

  • Threat Landscape
  • Latest Trends
  • New Modus Operandi
  • Threat Actors – Who, Capability & Intent
  • Fraud Schemes (stays, redemptions, etc.)
  • Innovation & Fraud Data Analytics – Wins, etc.
  • Other risk landscape trends indirectly impacting Loyalty Program fraud
  • Intelligence sources, including Third Party Vendors (TPVs)
  • Cooperation with Law Enforcement Agencies (LEA)

Non-Loyalty Program related fraud

  • Credit Card Fraud
  • Fake Bookings
  • Promotion Abuse
  • Internal Fraud

To create a safe environment to discuss the challenges Hotel Loyalty Programs face, and the steps they take to secure their programs, we have established some rules. All participants will be held to these rules, and will be reminded of them each call.

  • No competitively sensitive data may be shared.
  • Participants will not engage in nor discuss any anti-competitive activities during the sessions, nor will they use the information gained in the sessions for anti-competitive activities outside of the calls.
  • PII data will not be exchanged or shared, unless there is written consent given by the individual company’s legal representatives.
  • Chatham House Rules apply – information will be non-attributable.
  • Third Party Intelligence Rule will be respected. Strictly no passing of intelligence to third parties without the formal approval from the originator.
  • Participants must provide their company email address to avoid uninvited attendees
  • Participation in these calls is at no cost.
  • By attending, participants agree to adhere strictly to the Rules mentioned above and accept that these Rules may be amended from time to time by unanimous vote.
  • Non-adherence to the Rules will result in the exclusion of the Participant and his/her organization.
  • Participants acknowledge and agree that the organizers of the calls cannot be held liable for the accuracy of the information provided and discussed.

We have gone ahead and planned out the Hotel Loyalty Program Intelligence Sharing Calls for the next few months. Below is the schedule, all Thursdays. Changes may occur, we will post and notify you of them.
